705 Unit Breakdown

At the start of the 705 unit, I decided to create a breakdown of the brief, this was to help me get a clear understanding of the tasks that I had to complete for submission as well as the criteria that I had to cover and where I could do this. From previous units, I have found that this is a good way for me to start projects as part of my planning stage, as it stops me from becoming overwhelmed.

Tasks

  1. Negotiated project

  • Practical Work

  • VR village/ environment

  • Practically built and scanned village

Criteria

  1. Experimentation and resolution - make stuff (practical) and reflect on it (blog) present it (crit)

  2. Project management - do the work (make planning docs)

  3. Research - research bits of the project (learning software, theory topics linked to practical, festivals and industry, PhD proposal, blog)

  4. Evaluation and critical analysis - evaluate work throughout, link to industry, link to theories, reflect throughout and final written evaluation

  5. Subject knowledge - practice and blog - researching topics, and linking topics to practice (practical and blog)

Once I had broken the unit and tasks down to the work that I would need to create for them, I used the breakdown to start to make a to-do list, which detailed all of the individual pieces of work that I needed to complete.

This list is quite long as I have broken it down into individual tasks. There will be more individual tasks in some stages such as the 3D, UE/VR and testing stages, but because I haven't done those before I am not currently sure what they will be.

There are other pieces on this that I don't need to focus on as they are not really what my project/ future progression focuses on, but they would also be nice to have just in case, such as I don't really need a showreel and portfolio as I intend to progress on to do a PhD while still teaching, however, they would be very useful to have, as my currency one is incredibly outdated (to the point I wouldn't use it) and should I decide to go into the industry it is something that I will need.

Also, a few of the jobs on the list can be done fairly quickly which means that once I get them ticked off, the list will shrink a lot.

I have found that having a detailed to-do list helps me throughout projects, maybe even more than a schedule, because I have ADHD I sometimes don't want to do the task I have written down on my schedule that day, because of my ADHD I can't force myself to do them as a neurotypical would and Instead I waste time staring at the task list, feeling bad, and procrastinating. This is where I have found that a detailed to-do list helps, if I don't feel like doing the task on my schedule then I can just go through my to-do list and pick a task that I do want to do, that way, while I may not be sticking to a schedule, I am at least getting a task done.

I will use my to-do list to create a schedule, which I will try to stick to and check each week, but I will use my to-do list alongside it to ensure that I am using my time each week effectively.
